Joey was born in Sarasota, FL, and raised in Tampa, FL, in a close-knit community. He always loved dancing and was introduced to ballet at the age of 10 through a summer program hosted by Tampa City Ballet called Prodigy. Joey trained with Paula Nunez and the Tampa City Ballet School for 10 years before graduating from high school.

After graduating, he decided to continue his dance career and join the Tampa City Ballet Company, where he is currently training in both ballet and contemporary dance, taught by Osmany Montano and some of the other company's professional dancers. Now, he's the youngest member of the company, at 20 years old.
